3 Places That Make Jaipur a Haven for Religious Tourists

Govind Dev ji Temple

Located in the state of Rajasthan, the Vaishnava temple goes by the name of Govind Dev Ji Mandir and is located in the City Palace complex. Like the name suggests, the temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is among the seven temples of Thakur of Vrindavan which includes Sri Radhavallabh ji, Shri Bankey Bihari ji, Govind Dev ji, and four others.

The idol is said to have been brought to Jaipur by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II who is known to be the founder of Jaipur. The deity belonged to a disciple of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and is said to look exactly like his form during his incarnation on Earth.

Legend has it that some five thousand years ago Shri Bajranabh, the great grandson of Lord Krishna asked his grandmother about how he had looked. And accordingly, he later on made the idol exactly the way his grandmother had described to him.

Outside of Vrindavan, this is one of the most important temples for Vaishnavites. Seven times a day, aartis and bhog are offered to the lord and thousands of devotees flock to the mandir everyday in order to catch a glimpse of the mesmerising beauty of Lord Krishna during its unveiling for ‘darshan’.

A Hindu temple complex dedicated to lord Ganesha was built in 1761 under the supervision of Seth Jai Ram Paliwal and became to be known as the Moti Dungri Temple where thousands of devotees flock to the temple everyday in order to take blessings.

Over time, the temple has become a popular tourist attraction in the city that is now a part of Jaipur local sightseeing packages

The temple gets its name from the place it is situated in: the temple is built at the top of the Moti Dungri hill and is surrounded by the Moti Dungri fort. The Ganesha idol that has been placed in the temple is said to be more than five hundred years old and is said to have been brought by Seth Jai Ram Paliwal all way from Gujarat.

The sindoor coloured trunk of Ganesha is used as a tilak for the devotees and the idol itself is offered a huge number of ladoo sweets- about 1.25 lakhs every year. Every wednesday, a fair is organised in the temple complex because of how auspicious the day is considered for worshippers of Lord Ganesha.

The structure of the temple is built in the Nagara style and is based on the model of a scottish castle. Completed in four months, the temple is built using limestone and has three entrance gates and a few steps in the front. Even today, the temple is a place for people to have them remain fortunate.
